About Gautama Buddha

Siddhartha Gautama, known as the Buddha, means “the Awakened One.” He was a wise teacher and the founder of Buddhism. He lived in northern India and Nepal around 2,500 years ago.

According to Buddhist tradition, Siddhartha was born in Lumbini, which is now in Nepal. He was born into a royal family of the Shakya clan. Even though he had a comfortable life, he left his palace to search for the truth about life and suffering.

He lived as a wandering monk, practiced meditation, and followed a simple lifestyle. After many years of deep meditation, he attained enlightenment (nirvana) under the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya, India.

After becoming the Buddha, he traveled across many places, teaching people how to live peaceful and meaningful lives. He also created a community of monks and followers called the Sangha.

The Buddha spent the rest of his life sharing his teachings. He passed away in Kushinagar, India, where Buddhists believe he entered Parinirvana, the final state of complete freedom from suffering and rebirth.

The Buddha taught that people can overcome suffering by following the Middle Way, which avoids both extreme luxury and extreme hardship. His main teachings are called the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path, which guide people to live with wisdom, kindness, good behavior, mindfulness, and meditation.

He also taught that everything in life is connected and constantly changing. Nothing exists independently, and understanding this helps people become free from attachment and suffering.
